Ramis Insect Hunter

We have designed an insect-hunting robot that can be used to attract, trap, and exterminate different types of insects in farms without using a drop of chemicals.

This product is a slim wheeled mobile robot that attracts, traps, and exterminates insects in the farms. Certain frequencies of light are used to attract insects to a specific area and trap them. The robot can move at an adjustable pace from one stopping station to another. The position of stations will be determined according to the farm spaces, type of insects, and the range of UV light ray emissions to attract. Depending on the area covered by ray emitters, the distance between neighboring stations may change. Insect Hunter Robots are designed to stop at each station for a specific and adjustable amount of time to attract insect pests and trap them in their trap box. The insects are attracted to the UV light and would move toward the light source and would consequently be subjected to a suction caused by the fan installed underneath the first chamber of the robot that would draw the insect into itself. The insects would then be pulled by the same system into the second chamber where only air can get out. Depending on the pest density and the shape of the land the speed of the robot and the number of stations can vary automatically. The robot is able to cover an average of 17 hectares, ten times in the 4-month period of harvesting.

This insect-hunter robot consists of the following components:

  • Navigation System

The robot uses a laser signal (known as LIDAR – Light Detection and Ranging system) and a sensory-based map of the surrounding environment (known as SLAM – Simultaneous Localization and Mapping system) to navigate through the farm. Based on the map of each farm and the pre-programmed algorithms, the system will choose a number of optimized points on the farm. The robot will navigate to those stopping points and stay for a pre-defined amount of time in each position to attract insects.

  • Insect Attraction and Trapping System

The robot will use UV light that attract the insects and guides them through a compartment that is designed in a way that would only allow entrance to the insects due to the heavy suction that is created by the fan, trapping them inside.

  • Insect Killing System

When insects are attracted using ultraviolet light that is designed to stimulate the phototaxis behavior in them, they will be exposed to a heavy air flow created by the fan underneath the first compartment. Some of the insects would be exterminated due to their contact with the fan’s blades and the rest would be exterminated by the heavy air flow and suffocation as a result of getting trapped inside the second chamber.

  • Body

The body is designed to enable the smooth movement of the robot on the farm and protect its other components.

The main structure of our insect-hunting robot is the same for different insects, crops, and farm conditions. We offer customized modifications on our basic setup (body size, motor power, etc.), considering each customer’s specific request. Therefore, the robot can be utilized on different types of farms, crops, and insects.

The insects are attracted to the light and enter the first chamber. The insects would be drawn inside due to the aforementioned suction. They would then be carried into the second compartment that operates as a waste bin. The insects would not be able to leave the robot on their own as a result of the heavy airflow that is present all throughout the chambers. After having been trapped and exterminated the cleanout hatch can be opened to empty the device, creating an efficient continuous loop of trapping, and eliminating insects.

 

Using this robot enables farmers to cut costs as they would not need to use insecticides anymore and also would not lose a part of their crops as a result of insects’ attacks.

As we do not use even a drop of chemicals in exterminating insects, using our product will:

  • Contribute to reduced water and soil pollution;
  • Improve the quality of agricultural products and overall health of plants;

Cover a bigger portion of the farm that is impossible when using manpower
